Magdalene College is one of the famous central Cambridge University Colleges. Founded in 1428, Magdalene is the 7th oldest college in Cambridge and one of the most beautiful. It has the longest river front of any college and is just north of Magdalene Bridge which is famous for punting.
Formerly known as Buckingham College, was renamed Magdalene College in 1542 by Lord Thomas Audley.
During the 20th century, Magdalene College became the College with the most influential graduates in almost all professions. Recent graduates include Mark Malloch Brown (deputy Secretary of the United Nations) and Alan Rusbridger (editor of The Guardian newspaper). Other notable alumni include writer C.S Lewis, the actor Sir Michael Redgrave and the Archbishop Michael Ramsey.
Magdalene is located on the bank of the river Cam giving the College a beautifully scenic location. Students can enjoy traditional activities such as punting and croquet. Magdalene has an interesting and eclectic mix of buildings, the architectural history of which is a fascinating story in itself.
The campus is monitored by CCTV.
Cambridge needs no introduction. It is one of the most distinguished university towns worldwide. The River Cam, from where it took its name, flows sedately amongst buildings, adding a tone of rural ambience and giving one the sense that time affects this city favourably, making it one of Britain’s true gems. Combining historic and traditional buildings with architecturally more contemporary constructions, it invites you to exploration. Theatres, museums and music halls make up a city that’s extremely student friendly and welcoming to tourists from everywhere, who flock to it each year. The highlight of the summer is the Film Festival and the Shakespeare Festival! Visitors should not neglect to go to the renowned King's College Chapel. The University of Cambridge was founded in the 13th century and is now a global centre for scientific research.
The accommodation at Magdalene consists of single bedrooms with shared bathrooms in separate male and female accommodation block. In addition to an auditorium, a social room and a sports field, there is also a laundry room free of charge. Living and studying in this world-renowned location allows Bucksmore students to experience student life as a Cambridge University undergraduate.
Meal plan: The programme offers three meals daily (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at the College restaurant. It’s self-service. On the day of the full-day excursion breakfast and dinner will be offered at the restaurant and lunch will be provided as packed.
A full and varied programme of cultural and art activities takes place in the campus areas. This is another great opportunity for students to use the English language and also to have fun and get to know their peers from other countries. The social programme is organised by the staff of the organisation and includes sports, team games (quiz nights, disco parties and treasure hunt) and cultural outings so get ready to party & fun!
Over the duration of the two week course, there are two full-day excursions and one half-day trip to a variety of destinations (Oxford & Cambridge, London, Brighton). Students are accompanied by staff on all excursions, and can be given free-time if appropriate.
Due to the campus location, additional visits to the numerous attractions can be arranged on demand.
